The Charism of the Kithu Dana Pubuduwa could be introduced as the most special feature of the Kithu Dana Pubuduwa spirituality. In whatever way you look at Christian spirituality it is emphatically the grace of God and never a “human” construct. The Lord has granted the Kithu Dana Pubuduwa a special grace. While some may call it a gift it can also be introduced as a “Charism” (derived from the Greek word 'Charis'.)
When describing our Kithu Dana Pubuduwa Charism attention needs to be paid to a common feature of all Charismata. That is, it being something which always grows and spreads. The Kithu Dana Pubuduwa became aware of its Charism only after the beginning of its Second Era in 1996. But gazing back over the history of the renewal in Sri Lanka we could recognize four special gifts that God Almighty has graced it with.
Whilst a number of directions based on these gifts were given to be used during daily Personal Prayer a special retreat called “The School of Prayer” was also formulated. Together with the dawning of the 25th anniversary of the Kithu Dana Pubuduwa these four gifts of the Pubuduwa Charism was presented as four experiences:
- The experience of being empty like the Blessed Mother and being filled with the Holy Spirit like unto her.
- Gazing at the Divine Sonship of Jesus
- Gazing at my own divine sonship
- Being in the presence of the Mystery of God the Father
It was confirmed that being part of the Kithu Dana Pubuduwa is being called to enter into and acknowledge these four experiences. Spiritual direction has been received to enter into these four experiences by participating in a special exercise named “Shudhaathma Bhavanava” or Holy Spirit Meditation and “Magey Paya” or My Hour and also directions have been given to be conscious of these four experiences while seeking God's will during 'Constant Awareness' and 'life experiences '. It is our calling to permit the Holy Spirit and to become aware of Him deepening this experience of ours and taking us forward in it.
Shuddhaathma Bhavanava
“Shuddhaathma Bhavanava” is a meditative exercise lasting for forty-five minutes, introduced by Swami Thaththa our founder priest to experience the Charism of the Pubuduwa. This meditation is conducted according to the four steps of the Pubudu charism.
